Putting an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU Mode involves a specific sequence of button presses and settings. Here we will show you how to put iPhone in DFU mode, as well as, iPad and iPod touch.
Put iPhone 8 and Later into DFU Mode:
Step 1. Connect your iPhone to your computer through a USB cable.
Step 2. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Press and hold the Power button and release it until the device screen goes black.
Step 4. Keep holding both Power and Volume Down at the same time for around 5 seconds.
Step 5. Release the Power button while keeping holding the Volume Down button for around 10 seconds. Your device has got into DFU Mode if the device screen keeps black.
Get iPhone 8 and Later out of DFU Mode:
Step 1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
Step 2. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Keep holding the Power button and release it until the white Apple logo shows on the screen. Your iPhone will get out of DFU Mode and restart normally.
Put iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus into DFU Mode:
Step 1. Connect your iPhone to your computer via a USB cable.
Step 2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for about 5 seconds.
Step 3. Release the Power button while keeping holding the Volume Down button for 10 seconds. When your device screen keeps black, this means that the device has entered DFU mode successfully.
Take iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus out of DFU Mode:
Step 1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons for around 10 seconds.
Step 2. Release the Volume Down and Power buttons when the white Apple logo appears on the screen.
Step 3. Your iPhone will exit DFU Mode and boot normally.
Put iPhone 6s or Earlier into DFU Mode:
Step 1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
Step 2. Hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for around 5 seconds.
Step 3. Release the Power button while keeping holding the Home button for around 10 seconds. Your device has got into DFU Mode if the device screen keeps black.
Remove iPhone 6s or Earlier from DFU Mode:
Step 1. Hold the Home and Power buttons for around 10 seconds.
Step 2. Release the Home and Power buttons when the Apple logo appears on the screen.
Step 3. Your iPhone will exit DFU Mode and boot normally.
Put iPad without a Home Button into DFU Mode:
Step 1. Connect your iPad to your computer via a USB cable.
Step 2. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Keep holding the Power button and release it when your device screen goes black.
Step 4. Hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for around 5 seconds.
Step 5. Release the Power button while keeping holding the Volume Down button for around 10 seconds. If your device screen becomes black, the device has entered DFU Mode successfully.
Exit iPad DFU Mode without Home Button:
Step 1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Step 2. Keep holding the Power button and release it until the white Apple logo shows on the screen.
Step 3. Your iPad will exit DFU Mode and restart normally.
Put iPad with a Home Button into DFU Mode:
Step 1. Connect your iPad to your computer through a USB cable.
Step 2. Hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for around 5 seconds.
Step 3. Release the Power button while keeping holding the Home button for around 10 seconds. Your device has entered DFU Mode when the device screen becomes black.
Exit iPad DFU Mode with Home Button:

Step 3. Your iPad will exit DFU Mode and restart normally.
Put iPod touch 7 into DFU Mode:

Take iPod touch 7 out of DFU Mode:

Step 3. Your iPod touch will exit DFU Mode and restart normally.
Put iPod touch 6 or Earlier into DFU Mode:
